There’s something truly special about the start of a new academic year – a feeling of fresh beginnings, hope, and endless possibilities.
Student Wellbeing in the Secondary School
The connection between student wellbeing and academic success is well-established. For students to thrive, it’s crucial that they feel connected and feel a sense of belonging. This sense of connection is fostered through the meaningful relationships built at Swan Valley Anglican Community School. A stronger sense of school connectedness has also been linked to higher levels of engagement and improved academic outcomes. Our goal is for all students to experience wellbeing - feeling positive about their school life and fully participating in the school community.
Each morning at 8:30am, students will meet with their Homeroom Teacher (formerly known as the Pastoral Care Teacher), which serves as a key moment of connection. Therefore, it’s important that students arrive at school on time. Additionally, every student will have a designated Homeroom Wellbeing period each week, either on Monday or Wednesday. During this time, students will work on social-emotional skills, access study skills resources, and engage in activities to build House spirit. All students will also participate in weekly Chapel or Worship sessions.
The six Heads of Year play a pivotal role in the development of student Wellbeing, which aims to develop and support the academic, social, emotional and spiritual development of all our students.
The Heads of Year for 2025 are as follows:
Year 7: Mrs Clare Lowndes
Year 8: Mrs Tash Hague (while Mrs Finnon is on maternity leave)
Year 9: Mr Casey Wilmore
Year 10: Term 1: Ms Caisey-Jane Voak; from Term 2: Mrs Emma Amson
