Learning Comes in Many Shapes and Forms
We know that students learn in various ways, each with their own set of experiences, capabilities, talents, and attitudes. Because of this, we provide a variety of learning experiences to ensure that a wide range of interests, abilities, and needs are catered for.
Some learning is experiential and fun, such as the recent Surf’s Up Carnival, the WACSSA Cricket Carnival, Elmer Day and the Year 4 educational incursion presented by the Kids Research Institute Australia.
Other learning occurs through Direct Instruction, such as our high-impact literacy programs. We also provide opportunities to inquire and investigate, which give our students hands-on experience and the opportunity to grapple with problems.
Learning also happens in a social context, such as on the playground, in the classroom and during sporting events. We recently kicked off our co-curricular club program, allowing students to expand their learning beyond the school day. Soon, the Year 6 students will head off for their camp, which will stretch them physically, emotionally and socially, and they will have fun!
We live out an Anglican Identity through our School Values, Chapels and other experiences, such as the recent visit to St George Cathedral for the AngliSchools 40th Anniversary Eucharist and the Ash Wednesday service for Years 3 to 6.
Seeing our students confidently embrace the wide range of learning opportunities at SVACS is heartening.
Learning to Lead
Learning to lead is an important aspect of education. Across the year levels, there are informal and formal opportunities for students to practise leadership. Important formal roles in Year 6 include the roles of Primary Leader, Service Leader, Chapel Leader, Sports Leader and House Leader. Additionally, each class across Years 3 to 6 elects a Class Representative. Together the Year 6 Leaders and Class Representatives strive to make positive changes and support the running of the Primary School. At a formal Chapel ceremony, the Year 6 Leaders and Class Representatives were presented with a candle and certificate. At the Chapel, they were reminded to shine a bright light as they lead in the Primary School.
